Celine The Movie Reviewed

By Rosalind Owen

Celine The Movie, showcases the world famous singer as she tours the world thrilling fans everywhere she goes. Celine has become one of the most famous singers of all time. In fact, in Las Vegas, an arena was built for her on the strip where she performed each night for three years running.

The singer was born in Canada, in Quebec in the year 1968, where she grew up in a small town. At twelve years of age she was already grabbing the ear of music executives with the recordings she would consistently mail in. One record manager thought so much of her submissions that he took out a mortgage on his home to pay for her first album. For the singer, it was the beginning of world fame.

The movie is about this famous performer living a normal life; well, normal for a famous singer on a world wide tour. She wants the world to know that above everything, she is a normal, down to earth person. The film follows the world famous singer as she performs in five continents and twenty five countries.

The film is not so much about her live singing performances, although some of the acts are shown. The presentation is more about how she lives life on the road. Her fans see her of course as primarily a stage performer. But the film is more about the singer as a person.

But her life if full of travel time, being away from home, and living in one hotel room after the next. This is not an easy life. The report is that she earns forty five million dollars a year. Who would not want to make this much money a year? But Celine does not sit around the house watching TV.

She is on the road most of the year. She has to deal with adoring fans that want to reach out to her each time she steps out in public. She has to guard her voice from any type of mishap. She has to deal with the physical and emotional strain that comes with performing. She is only human, but sometimes fans forget this.

She has decided to make herself available to the world. She has no private life. But as the film shows, she has handled her position on the world stage well. She knows that her fans want more and more of her, and this movie is one way she has tried to give to the world, more of herself.

Fans of the singer from Canada will not be let down by this movie. The will see their superstar living life on the road. They sill see her husband, who is also her manager, also in the film, along with her son, who travels with his mom along the tour.

Fans will want to view the movie a second and third time. For people who do not consider themselves fans, they will think that once is enough. But for the fan who cannot get enough of the singer from Quebec, they cannot see too much of Celine.

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky: An Accurate Movie Summary

By Alfredo Ross

At the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in May, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky debuted. This film is about two renowned people who were having an intense love affair. They are French designer Coco Chanel and Russian musician Igor Stravinsky.

The French film is based on the fictional novel that Chris Greenhalgh wrote in 2002. While the book and the movie are fictional, both are based on true events. Greenhalgh wrote about Coco Chanel's alleged affair with Stravinsky during the time they both lived in Paris in 1920.

This is also the same year that famous, Chanel No. 5 was created. 2009 was a big year for movies based on the life of the famed designer. That same year, Audrey Tautou starred in a film called Coco avant Chanel that was directed by Anne Fontaine. Coco avant Chanel was not as big of a success as this one.

The plot of the movie is rather engaging. The movie starts off in Paris, France in the year 1913. Coco Chanel is attending the premier a rather outrageous performance called Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. The ballet was extremely controversial which actually caused the audience to break out into the most well known musical riots ever.

The scores and choreography shocked the audience which, at the time, was more accustomed to demure classical ballet. However, Coco Chanel was not appalled by the ballet as most people were. She is intrigued, especially with Stravinsky rushes angrily out of the theater.

It is seven years before the designer and the musician come into contact again. In 1920 Coco is a world renowned designer with a successful business. However, she is mourning her last lover, Arthur Capel. She meets Igor when he is forced to flee from Russia after the Russian Revolution. He has fled to France for safety. There is an instant attraction between the two.

Chanel offers Stravinsky and his family the use of her villa located on the outskirts of Paris. While he, his wife, and their children are living in the villa, Stravinsky and Chanel begin a closeted love affair. They have an intense passion for one another that shows in their work. Creatively, their work gets better. It is during their love affair that Igor's music takes on a more freeing tone. It is also during the affair that the famous perfume, Chanel No. 5 is released. The love affair quickly comes to an end when Stravinsky's wife is made aware of the affair.

Jan Kounen directed the movie and Chris Greenhalgh wrote the screenplay along with the book. The movie was filmed in three languages, French, English, and Russian. It stars Ann Mouglalis as Coco Chanel and Mads Mikkelson as Igor Stravinsky. Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky opened around the world after it's premier at the Cannes Film Festival. The initial reviews were mixed. The film was said to be sophisticated but it lacked imagination. It also was not as developed as the book and left the viewer wanting more.

City Island Reviewed

By Derrick Carney

City Island is a movie made in 2009, which came out in April of 2010, starting Emmy Nominated Andy Garcia and Julianna Margulies as a married couple seemingly stuck in a rut. Their entire family, including themselves, can not face the truth. Vince Rizzo, Garcia's character, is a corrections officer and longs to be a big star. This revelation is a secret he wants to keep from his family and hides his weekly acting classes as best he can.

This dark family comedy won the coveted audience award at the 2009 famed Tribeca Film Festival where most films go to generate a buzz which in turn brings more people out to view the film when it hits the theaters. This was its first screening and critics and movie-goers both enjoyed the hilarity that came out of this charming yet smart film about the lengths families will go to in order hide the truth from one another.

Everyone in this dysfunctional family unit is hiding something from the rest of the family, a large secret that they believe would destroy their parents and the way everyone things about them. Garcia, the father of this film and the star of the very popular Ocean's movie franchises, is hiding the fact that he desperately wants to become an actor. Garcia's wife, performed perfectly by Margulies of televisions The Good Wife, hides her smoking and is often sneaking around trying to catch Garcia's character in bed with another woman, something she won't find.

Other family members include a daughter who is supposed to be attending collage but instead is a stripper. This character is performed by Dominik Garca-Lorido of the Lost City. The Rizzo's young, teenage son's performance is done by Ezra Miller of television's Californication and he is trying to keep his secret love and fetish regarding the family's 300 pound neighbor. The performance of the drama coach of the elder Rizzo is done by Emmy Award Winner Alan Arkin from Little Miss Sunshine. He, too, has several secrets he's keeping from the rest of those on screen.

When creating a story, a screenwriter needs to ask themselves 'why today'? What is so special about this day or this time in the family's life that makes a movie interesting. Vince Rizzo answers that question by his reaction to an acting exercises. Rizzo decides to bring home his long-lost son which he located in the prison he works at. The fact that the elder Rizzo found his long lost son in the prison he works at as a corrections officer is so much change and a lie he can't cover up, he bring him home to meet the family.

Emily Mortimer of the movie Shutter Island gives a performance of the elder Rizzo's confidant and acting partner. Mortimer and Garcia's chemistry is almost perfect in this quirky and almost always funny movie for the most laughs and best chemistry, money is on Margulies' and Garcia. They play a typical New York married couple whose miscommunications and constant love-hate yelling will steal the show.

The title of the movie is named after a small town that actually exists on the outskirts of the Bronx's and is rich in family traditions. There seems to be no 'outsiders' living in the actual community and parents and grandparents pass down their homes to their children when they become too old to care for them. This town used to be a shipping retreat and basically only those in the Bronx and Manhattan know about it, until now.

This movie came out in April of 2010 and the Blu-Ray and DVD release date is scheduled for August 24, 2010. In addition to his acting duties, Andy Garcia is also one of the many producers, joining several co-producers and executive producers. The film was written and directed, as a labor of love by Raymond De Felitta.

Shopaholics will have a great time in Cape Town and the best thing is that, it is very cheap out here. You will find several enticing mementos to take home as gifts for friends or for your own home.

Those who love history must come to the Castle of Good Hope, which is the oldest building in the country, build between the years 1666 and 1679. This well maintained pentagonal castle stands as a testimony to South Africa's martial history; after the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck's. Ensure that you have a look at the dolphin pool, the dungeons, and blacksmith. If you manage to reach there by 10am during the weekdays, then you can see the Key Ceremony; while at 12pm you can see the Change of Guards. You might just see a ghost, if you are lucky or unlucky?

Linger on the veranda at Constantia Uitsig, sample the best Franschoek has to offer at Quartiere Francais or nibble on a scrumptious seafood platter at On The Rocks in Blouberg.

Tourists to Cape Town must visit the Cape Point, where the famous Portuguese voyager, Bartholomew Dias, stopped by in--88. It's indeed a striking sight. It is hard to deem how the sailors came through the dangerous water ways long ago. Other must see places are the Kalk Bay Caves and the famous the East India Company's Gardens, among others.

Brookylns Finest Remains Popular With The Masses

By Gabriel Bush

One of the sleeper movies of the year, Brookylns Finest, was released in March with mixed reviews, but that didn't stop avid action junkies from flooding the theaters looking for an interesting twist on an old story line. Due to the efforts of writer Michael C. Martin and directory Antoine Fugua, this film has made the list of one of the top cop movies since 1973 as well as grossed more profits than expected. Set in the 65th precinct of New York City's Police Department, the problems of living in the inner city all come to light in this well acted film.

One of the films outstanding features is the all-star cast that provides riveting performances that keep audiences drawn into the story. Renowned actors such as Wesley Snipes, Richard Gere, Lili Taylor, Jesse Williams, Ethan Hawke, Ellen Barkin, Don Cheadle and more take viewers through the hardships and problems faced by the men and women of the NYPD on a daily basis. The story reveals the personal and professional problems of three officers who must do almost anything to survive in this precinct.

Filmed predominately in New York, Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn the film takes viewers on a wild ride through the eyes of police officers who often see the worst part of life on a daily basis. To draw viewers in many action-packed sequences have been interwoven into the story. For example, the opening scene shows two men are having a conversation while in a parked car when one is shot in the face. The deceased is then robbed and the killer takes off. It later turns out the killer is actually a police officer in the film who has myriad problems in his personal life.

For many in the law enforcement field there is a thin line between what is right and what is wrong and this is often complicated by problems unfolding in their personal lives. Money problems, near retirement, undercover work, and much more affects the decisions made on a daily basis and often creates the automatic responses many police officers rely upon to survive. The development of the story line in this film comes to a neat conclusion, although unexpected, when the three key players wind up in the same location at the same time for very different reasons.

The story that unfolds is intriguing for various reasons, one of which it is based on the personal experiences of writer Michael Martin. The writer grew up in this area of New York and is written in such a way as to help viewers unfamiliar with the area, to appreciate the difficulty of living in this area. Although it was filmed on a modest budget, due to the fact many of the actors felt it was a story that needed to be told, their lesser incomes helped bring the film to completion.

The film was first viewed at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009 as well as the Venice Film Festival later that year before it was picked up by Overture Films for circulation. It has been met with mixed reviews by critics and audiences alike, so far, but has been praised for the acting and character development of individual cast members. Critic reviews brought the value of the film into question, but audiences throughout the world seem to disagree.

However, as with all critics they do not take into account the personal tastes of mass audiences. Coming in at #11 in the all-time "Dirty Cop Movie" category (based on releases from 1973 to the present), this film saw $13 million in profits in its first week coming in at #2 behind Alice in Wonderland. During its theater run it gross over $27 million dollars and once released internally earned an addition #34 million.

Brookylns Finest is currently #1 in DVD sales which indicates that the mass audience is much better than predicted. It is rated R for nudity, language, sexuality, drug content, and violence and runs a little over two hours. For those who love to live life on the streets through film, it is definitely one that should be viewed.
