A Brief Review Of The Film Fargo

By Gary Rosa

If you are reading into this particular piece, then chances are, you are looking to learn a little more about the critically acclaimed crime comedy, "Fargo". While there is a good bit that you might want to understand and consider to truly appreciate this film, this article will help you learn some of the most prevalent of these things.

One of the best ways that this can be done, is by simply walking you through the plot of the film. While, for the sake of space and time you cannot be let in on every detail, you will get a synopsis that is worthwhile and might encourage you to watch this movie, if you have not gotten around to it yet. Let it be known, this will likely contain spoilers, so be prepared.

The film is set around a man that is in desperate need of money, and hatches a plan for two men to kidnap his wife in order to collect ransom money from his wife's well to do father. Jerry, the husband is a shady car dealer with a checkered past of bad car deals and numerous methods to make a quick buck.

The trouble really begins when Jerry learns that he does not need the money, when another business venture that he has tried to start seems as though it will get the financial backing that it requires. So in an attempt to call off the kidnapping, Jerry learns that he cannot get a hold of the soon to be captors. The next sequence involves the two kidnappers very awkwardly taking Jerry's wife, Jean.

Jerry's original plan was to set the ransom at 80,000 but he changes his mind. He then decides that it would be better to ask his father in law for one million, on behalf of the kidnappers of course. Wade, her father, agrees to pay the amount but refuses to allow Jerry to hand it to them as he wants to meet them himself and give it to them. His actual plan is to kill them both, save his money, and save his daughter all in one fell swoop.

It doesn't go exactly as planned though, and Wade ends up very dead and Carl, one of the kidnappers ends up seriously wounded (having been shot in the jaw). But, Carl escapes with the money and he soon learns it is much more than 80,000. He buries the rest and take the money back to his partner at their isolated cabin. There, Carl learns that Jean, Jerry's wife is now dead at the hands of Carl's partner in crime. They argue, and Carl winds up dead too.

The other is soon arrested, and the following scene depicts Jerry being arrested as well for his involvement in planning and seeing through with the entire plan. There were so many incredible performances in this motion picture, though among the best would be William H. Macy as Jerry and Steve Buschemi as one of the two kidnappers.

So, to learn about this film "Fargo", you had to learn the plot a little better. Hopefully, this article was some help towards that end, though there is much more to see and appreciate on your own concerning the film. So if you haven't seen it, you really should.
