The Change From Knight & Day

By Darrell Dorsey

Imagine two people with completely separate agendas in their life crossing paths because they need one another. This only happens in movies like Knight & Day where two random people happen to meet at a moment in time where fate has intertwined them. He turns out to be her knight as the title indicates, yet the characters also happen to be so different that the implied comparison between night and day is also apparent.

Being on the run is not an easy thing for the characters in the movie. No one wants to get caught, yet around every corner lurks someone who's waiting for them. They try to escape as they are being chased for possession of the item they have that the bad guys shown appear to want.

Two strangers who are drawn together in a time of crisis end up developing a bit of a relationship. In some ways, this can bond them even if it initially drives them crazy. By experiencing life changing moments, a special type of story begins where the two of them become a part of each other. It's not hard to see it happening as they are forced to lean on one another for support.

As the story develops, you learn more about her life and his as well. He isn't as forthcoming with information as she is, so she's forced to follow clues to find out his past. The more time they spend together, the more she shares with him about her life. Each moment may be brief, but it's enough to keep you on your toes and wanting more from one scene and situation to the next.

An initial reaction to this movie could appear to be the action that is enhanced in the promotions. A few lines that keep you laughing show the comedy that makes the action all that more unique. Attention is given to the fact that these are real people in a difficult situation trying to make the most of it. Sometimes you laugh in a tough situation and sometimes you cry.

As new times and places appear throughout the movie, you see the creativity that was put into each scene. From a chase scene on the slim streets of a busy city to a desolate island where no man has tarnished it with urban life. Many places are a simplistic place of peace and quiet that can only be found by traveling near and far. The colors that enhance the characters also bring out the imagination behind the creativity.

Typically, the bad guys are never very smart and that continues to show how the good guys are always one step ahead. Needing to be one step ahead in order to survive is the name of the game. From shooting guns, dodging bullets and crashing cars to lengthy conversations that ensue show the depth of each situation.

A double meaning is reflected in actions and non-actions shown throughout. When you want to watch something that will make you laugh and cry at the same time, this is one of those moments when you'll want to pick Knight & Day. You will see that love can conquer many things and that good guys can get hurt, yet still win in the end.
